Argentina is a South American
country, second in size on the
continent after Brazil and
eighth in the world. Argentina
occupies a continental surface
area between the Andes
mountain range in the west
and the southern Atlantic
Ocean in the east and south.
It shares borders with
Paraguay and Bolivia in the
north, Brazil and Uruguay in
the northeast, and Chile in the
west and south. Tourism in
Argentina is favoured by its
ample and varied natural
assets, by its cultural offer,
and by its high exchange rate
to foreign currencies. In 2005,
according to the National
Institute of Statistics and
Census, tourism from abroad
grew 12% and became the
third largest source of income
for the country, producing
3,254.5 million USD. There
were about 4 million visitors,
and for the first time more
foreigners visited Argentina
than Argentinians travelled
abroad. For the first quarter of
2006 it was recorded about
600,000 foreign tourists. Of
these, 31% came from
Europe, 19% from the United
States and Canada, 14% from
Brazil, 9% from Chile, 3%
from other neighbouring
countries, and 14% from the
rest of the Americas; the rest
of the world accounted for
9%. |
